Welcome to Solid Rock Online.
Thanks for your interest in our developing community here in Springfield, Missouri! We are in the process of replanting a faith community in the urban center of our city. You’ll notice that we’re calling it “a missional community”—this speaks to two components of our dream for this church: First, that it is not just a church service or program that we’re establishing—but instead, a community of people who will endeavor to do life together as they follow the teachings of Jesus. Second, we want it to be missional because we not only desire to join our lives together—but we also want to be about God’s mission (the missio dei) in the world—starting right here where we live—serving, loving, and assisting people in the surrounding Springfield area.
We’ve chosen to keep the name of the church that was established in 1991—“Solid Rock”. This name reminds us of several great biblical concepts. Ps. 62:2 tells us that “God alone is our rock and our salvation; he is our fortress, we will never be shaken.” Matt. 7:24 tells us that Jesus’ is the rock solid foundation for our lives: “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.” And 1 Pet. 2:4-6 tells us that we’re building on Jesus (the Foundation Stone) and we are “like living stones, being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.”
We’re building our community around the concept of “convergence”—a blending of ancient aspects of Christianity along with present, creative forms of worship. We hope to build small faith communities that meet in our homes and then link these groups to local non-profit organizations so we can serve in our larger community. Our desire is to keep the institutional elements of the church to a minimum so we can invest our resources in building relationships and partnering with people in our city and beyond.
Once again, thanks for visiting our site—If this type of community interests you, we hope you’ll visit one of our weekend gatherings and begin journeying and serving with us. You can email us at: .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) .
